Lou has spilled her green peas on the floor. (She and Bug like to eat them still frozen for a snack – no really, I promise!) She sits to pick them up, one by one, and put them back in her cup.
“Nine, four, two, one, six….”
“You’re doing so well counting those peas, Sweetie!”
She holds up the cup full of peas proudly, “Look, Mama, five peas!”

Hatari is on, and Satchmo, who usually completely ignores the television, is fascinated. He crawls over to the entertainment center, head up, eyes never leaving John Wayne’s face. Pulls up, head still up, still transfixed. He secures himself, holding onto the shelf with one hand, so he can pat John’s face gently, over and over and over, while squealing with joy. Elmo, Clifford, Dora, Blue, who needs these kiddy shows when a masculine icon like the Duke is available?
