“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Renewal

After I put the girls down for their nap, I flopped onto the couch and hoped Satchmo would play quietly for a few minutes so that I could steal a few winks. (Ha, ha-ha, ha-ha!) Instead, he climbed up to stand on my stomach and bang a spatula against the window behind the couch. In a moment where I could have succumbed to annoyance, I glanced up out the window and was struck still by the beauty of the bare trees against a super-saturated sky, perfectly framed by the black window border. My son continued to bang away, but I didn’t notice any more.

I hadn’t looked out the window from that angle in a long time, since I’m usually up and about rather than laying on the couch. And today was the first day of sunshiney weather, as the previous days were filled with overcast skies (which are beautiful in their own way but tend to convey bleak melancholy when paired with bare trees). It may not be obvious from the picture, but the tree is just beginning to bud.

So I laid down to refresh myself with a nap, and instead God refreshed me with unexpected beauty. He knows what we need before we even ask.
