“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Scar-y kid

Note to mamas of littles: Make friends with an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Or a good nurse. Or, at the very least, someone with some kind of medical training.

I actually can’t take credit for the friendship, we’ve been friends with Andy since he was in high school, and he’s only recently become an EMT. But he’s a darned good one, and the kind of friend who will drop whatever he’s doing to run over to your house and sew up your two-year-old’s finger.

This is going to be Bug’s third big scary scar on her hands. We’ve spent more time in the emergency room with her than my and E’s childhoods combined, and she’s only two and a half. Fortunately, this time Andy determined we could use a liquid bandage instead of stitches, although he brought his equipment and was prepared to stitch if necessary.

Another note: Be careful about buying liquid bandages. New Skin buuuuuuuuurns so badly and for so long that you will forget the injury and care only to somehow remove the forever-stinging glue from your wound. Fortunately I tested it on myself before putting it on my child. Band-Aid Liquid Bandage is just fine though, and Bug didn’t even blink when Andy applied it. I’m going to be buying plenty of it to keep in the medicine cabinet.

Further note-age: Blood comes out of carpet just fine if you pour a cup of water on it while it’s still wet, then blot.

And the big huge overcompensating bandage? That’s so she’ll remember the injury and treat it a little more gingerly until it’s healed some. Also for bragging rights. :)

Do any of you have one child who’s just more accident-prone than the rest?
