Lou enters the room with a turkey baster tucked into her armpit. I have to inquire.
“I’n takin’ my tentaper.”
“Oh, are you sick?”
“Yeah, feel my head, I have a beever.”
Can you tell we’ve been sick? What with all the beevers, tentaper-taking, fussy-clingy-ness, oh, and the lymph node the size of a cantaloupe sitting on the side of Lou’s neck, we’ve been hunkered down at home since Monday, trying to rest and heal. Poor thing, she acts like she’s wearing a neckbrace, turning head and shoulders to see something, then straining her eyes to the side to avoid turning further. Exaggeration aside, this node is actually the size of a pecan and looks pretty alarming hanging off the side of her neck, regardless of how harmless the pediatrician assured me it is.
So please forgive the quietude, we’ll be back soon, after the “mennesin from the dokler” kicks in and Lou is on the mend.
