“Lou, sit back down at the table with your playdoh.”
“But why?”
“Because I do not want you to take your playdoh into the living room.”
“Why?”
“Because if you drop it, it will make a mess in the carpet.”
“Why?”
“Because playdoh is sticky.”
“Why?”
Ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

I know I just posted on how I add crochet edgings to blankets, but SewChic has a much better tutorial. Updated to add: She now has instructions on how to use a serger and sewing machine to simplify things tremendously. I’ve wanted to try this, but don’t have a serger. I will say [...]

Three years ago, a friend learned how to add crochet edgings to fleece when I gave her newborn daughter a blanket like Bug’s. She’s since learned to make adorable hats to match, and now has a dandy little side business making the sets for babies and children. She loves the hobby and is thrilled that [...]

Bug was in time-out and Lou climbed up with her. “I’m sharing JoonBug’s time-out, Mommy!” she announced. Sure enough, she sat still with Bug on the armchair until the timer beeped, then they both clambered down and ran off to play.
I sure hope they keep that up when they’re teens.

I grew up on 26 acres in the country, about half an hour from town. When I went to college, I’d never been toilet-papered, egged, or prank called. We’ve been living in town five years now and repeatedly had our cars egged, keyed, and yogurted (yes, once someone threw an entire container of yogurt on [...]

My dad just returned from a whirlwind trip to Italy with his two sisters, and is now leaving for a week at the coast with all his siblings and their families. Now that he is on disability leave, he is taking the advice of those further progressed in their disease to “do those things you’ve [...]

…items extracted from the nostrils of one of my children. Three years and four months into parenting and this is my first time, would you believe? Tweezers did the trick this time, but I’ve heard in dire circumstances you can block the open nostril and blow hard into the child’s mouth to launch the plug.
I [...]

This is Bug’s blankie.
It used to have a white satin ribbon running through the holes, joined at a corner with a beautiful girly bow, but she pulled it out like a drawstring so often it made my paranoid self afraid she’d choke on it, so I removed it. I made it for her just before [...]

0 – the number of potty-training books I read before beginning this age-old parenting venture
1 – the number of children a parent usually trains at a time
2 – the number of children currently in training in our home, also the number of toilet plungers we own (both of which now get a frequent workout)
3 – [...]
