Yes, (cue gasp) I am posting. Our life path has taken quite a sharp turn in the last few months, and so many of the subjects about which I had planned to blog have slowly dissipated, like so much dew evaporating from the street. My ponderings lately have centered upon what I should now write, and whether any of my thoughts are worth blogging instead of just personal journaling.
But while I mull over the extent of my own importance,
I will leave you with my new FAVORITE link:
www.LibriVox.org, free public domain audiobooks!
I love to read. I desperately miss reading. Somehow between mediating squabbles and changing diapers and managing a home, I find precious little time to delve into a good old book and drink in language a level or two higher than that of Elmo. Many of my favorite books are featured on this site, because they are old enough to be in the public domain. Books like The Secret Garden, The Princess and the Goblin, Anne of Green Gables, to name a few, as well as many great ones for children, such as the Beatrix Potter stories, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, The Wind in the Willows, and more. Since we will soon be living half an hour from town, I anticipate we will listen through many classics in the car rides to come. I have also enjoyed plopping them onto my iPod and carrying them with me. Though listening feels an inferior experience to reading (I suspect because of the missing sensory input of smelling old books and turning fragile pages), it is yet an enjoyable approximation. Plus, I am investigating the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling, and suspect that these audiobooks will be a great tool if we choose to go that route.
There’s also Storynory.com, audiobooks specifically for children. Lots of Greek myths, more fairy tales, Bible stories, etc.
