A lot of my regular reads are discussing abortion right now. I know where I stand (abortion is always wrong), but I find it enlightening and somewhat brain-frying to read blogs of pro-abortion folks. I like to understand their perspective and reasonings, though. Until today I had forgotten one aspect of how deeply abortion could [...]

Me: “Hey girls, what do you think we should name the baby?â” Bug: “Hmmmm — I think ‘Lou!’” Me: “Awww, silly, we already have a Lou in our family!” Bug: “Oh.” Lou: “I think ‘Doozer!’” Me: “But we also have a Doozer already!” They’re catching on that this is funny, and that they’re making a [...]

“Lou, sit back down at the table with your playdoh.” “But why?” “Because I do not want you to take your playdoh into the living room.” “Why?” “Because if you drop it, it will make a mess in the carpet.” “Why?” “Because playdoh is sticky.” “Why?” Ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

Bug was in time-out and Lou climbed up with her. “I’m sharing JoonBug’s time-out, Mommy!” she announced. Sure enough, she sat still with Bug on the armchair until the timer beeped, then they both clambered down and ran off to play. I sure hope they keep that up when they’re teens.

As you might know, my wife and I are pretty big privacy advocates. As such, we try to limit the amount of personal information that gets posted on the internet. I know that as soon as something is public, it can never be brought back. The words and pictures you post are cigar smoke, under [...]

…items extracted from the nostrils of one of my children. Three years and four months into parenting and this is my first time, would you believe? Tweezers did the trick this time, but I’ve heard in dire circumstances you can block the open nostril and blow hard into the child’s mouth to launch the plug. [...]
